| SCIENCE To provide the big industrial enterprises operating in Syunik marz with technological novelty, scientific and technical progress, contribution of recent results in science and technology several departments of Armenian Science Academy (ASA) and scientific research laboratories were established in 1970ies. Among them are ASA Physical-technical department with branches of solids, polymers physics and biophysics (Goris), Zangezour adapted systems laboratory (Kapan) of ASA Computer center, metallurgy laboratory (Kapan) of ASA Geology institute, research laboratory of automobile engines in high mountainous conditions (Kadjaran), microbiology laboratory (Kadjaran) of ASA Physiology institute. In consequence of the collapse of the USSR and the Armenian-Azerbajanian war in 1990-1994 Syunik marz, especially Kapan lost all the above-mentioned scientific research laboratories and the considerable part of scientific potential. At present the scientific potential in Syunik marz makes 150 employees and is mainly concentrated in 2 state, 8 private institutes (branches) operating in the region and the laboratories of Zangezour Copper and Molybdenum Combinat and Kapan Ore-dressing Combinat. Comparatively the scientific potential in Goris is big and it makes about 90 employees, of which 5 Doctors of Science (3 of them are members of different Academies in Russian) and about 25 Candidates of Science. The considerable part, about 44 employees with 3 Doctors and 7 Candidates of Science are involved in SEUA Goris campus. Three scientific-research reports on applied mathematics, chemists and other spheres are being prepared, which are financed by the State Budget. The scientific potential of newly established SEUA Kapan campus is still small. It makes 35 employees including 11 Candidates of Science (4 are from Yerevan campus). They take part in preparing the report A 395 (“Processing of molybdenum concentrate flotation technologies of Automated Control Systems) and 3 other reports with support of international scientific and technical center (Moscow). In the last 5 years the results of scientific research works implemented in SEUA Kapan campus have been published in 45 scientific articles and collections of 3 international and 5 republican scientific conference materials. In 2001/2002 academic year 25 articles have been published by the lecturers of SEUA Goris campus. Two scientific reports have been submitted to International Scientific Conference and seven reports to Republican and SEUA annual Scientific Conferences. Applied research works are carried out in Zangezour Copper-molybdenum Combinat for processing new technologies of getting hardened molybdenum and increasing copper content in copper concentrate. Some scientific research works are being done in the medical institutions of marz (Goris and Kapan hospitals). Great attention is paid to the training of scientific pedagogical specialists of state and private institutes in marz. Only 3 master’s theses have been defended by the employees of SEUA Kapan and Goris campuses in the last 5 years. In the same time about 25 graduates of the mentioned campuses have entered SEUA magistracy. Goris and Kapan are provided with Internet, modern computer technology, which enables to organize more efficiently the scientific research activities. |
